Following the recent award of a similar plant in Côte d’Ivoire, London-based energy group Globeleq has awarded TSK the contract for the supply of the 450 MW Temane Flexible Gas Power Plant. The contract for TSK means more than 300 million euros.

The power plant located in Inhambane Province will supply energy to EDM for 25 years. This investment is led by Globeleq and has the participation of EDM itself, Sasol and Eleqtra, and international institutions such as the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and OPEC Fund are participating in the financing. This investment will serve as an anchor for the construction of approximately 600 km of high voltage transmission lines throughout the country, allowing for the development of infrastructure and industrial growth in Mozambique. This is a priority project for the Government with investments of more than 2 billion dollars, all of which are supported by the World Bank, the Norwegian Development Fund, the African Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank.

Based in London and founded in 2002, Globeleq has power generation plants in Tanzania, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Kenya.

TSK will be in charge of the turnkey execution of the plant and will count on, once again, the German company SIEMENS for the supply of the turbines, which in this case will be the SGT-800.

TSK has made Africa its first market where it is currently executing several of the continent’s most emblematic projects, such as the largest solar photovoltaic plant with storage in the world, in Morocco which will have an installed capacity of 800 MW, the first combined cycle in Togo, or this new combined cycle plant in Mozambique, where it has been working since 2013 when it built a 120 MW gas engine plant and continued with the operation and maintenance services.

Recently TSK has also successfully completed the commissioning of a 65 MW solar photovoltaic plant in South Africa which will guarantee the supply to 20,000 homes and prevent the emission of 130,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year. This plant has been developed in conjunction with GRS and Umbono Energy Partners, this plant joins the 50 MW solar thermal plant which it already built in the country 4 years ago.

According to its CEO, Joaquín García, the presence in Africa is strategic for the company where it has been working uninterruptedly for more than 17 years, for us Africa is the continent of the future. With the highest rate of population growth, Africa will contribute more than half of the increase in world population between 2015 and 2050. Overall, Africa will grow from 1.186 million people today to 2.478 million in 2050 and only 35% of the population has access to electricity today.

With this new award, the backlog of work pending execution on the African continent for the Asturian engineering firm exceeds 1,500 million euros.
