OPENCLAD: Industrialization of automated processes of corrosion and wear resistant hardfacing for components with high requirements in service
IDE/2022/000793
Project co-financed by the Government of the Principality of Asturias through IDEPA, the Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (PCTI) and the European Union through ERDF Funds
From the moment a material is used at a productive level, it is susceptible to suffer some type of deterioration or degradation. The working conditions of certain components are not usually idyllic, since in many occasions they are subjected to very aggressive environments, which can cause corrosion, wear, deterioration and consequently a decrease in the mechanical properties and failures in the operation of components and mechanisms. Therefore, the aim of this project is to industrialize the most advanced technique for additive coatings, laser cladding, which is also one of the most economical and effective techniques. Three branches of application of laser cladding technology have been developed: coating, repair and direct fabrication. Most research has focused mainly on the optimization of the process, but not on the applications it can have industrially. There is, therefore, a very large gap in technology transfer to industry and real processes.
