The Milagro – Babahoyo electric power transmission system: A milestone in the modernization of the Ecuadorian agricultural sector
The Milagro – Babahoyo electric power transmission system: A milestone in the modernization of the Ecuadorian agricultural sector.
Over 700,000 inhabitants of Los Rios province will benefit from the recently inaugurated new electricity transmission system.
The electrical system, consisting of a 42 km transmission line and the extension of the Milagro and Babahoyo substations.
The peculiar characteristics of the terrain made it necessary to build 12 km of piles and to carry out a special design that raised the structures 3 m above the ground, to prevent them from being damaged by possible flooding. This, together with the extension of the Line, involved a great engineering effort and the commitment of 200 workers, in addition to an investment of more than 15 million dollars.
These new facilities, designed to be able to operate at 230 Kv, double the existing energy transmission capacity and promote the use of clean energy in the productive processes of this area, thus boosting its productivity, modernising the agricultural sector and allowing it to face the challenges of sustainable production that the country requires.
